The Furniture Category Merchant is responsible for managing the P&L and driving the success of assigned product lines. This role encompasses various responsibilities including strategic planning, financial analysis, vendor management, assortment planning, promotional planning, digital merchandise presentation and other cross-functional collaboration. The Furniture Category Merchant will lead efforts to execute product line strategies that provide customers solutions and achieve company budgeted sales and margin goals.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop and execute strategic business plans for assigned product lines, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
  • Manage all aspects of the product lifecycle, including assortment planning, vendor selection, negotiations, financial planning, inventory management, and merchandise presentation.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Category Merchant or Director of Merchandising to implement strategies that drive sales, margin, and competitive differentiation.
  • Lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance the online shopping experience, leveraging customer insights and data to optimize revenue and utilization of selling tools (search results, browse paths, accessories, product attributes, etc.).
  • Contribute to the development and execution of promotional go-to-market strategies, planning key product promotions to increase traffic and provide incremental sales and margin.
  • Negotiate effectively with vendors to secure cooperative funding and favorable terms.
  • Stay informed about market trends, external factors, and internal financial data to identify opportunities and potential risks.
  • Interpret and communicate findings from financial reports and data, making informed decisions to drive positive outcomes.
  • Provide clear direction and guidance to team members, ensuring successful execution of key initiatives.
  • Develop product line pricing strategy with support from Pricing team.
  • Coach and develop Product Specialists and/or Associate Category Merchants for successful execution of product line strategies.
  • Create development plans, conduct performance appraisals, and make hiring decisions with clear and effective onboarding plans for new associates.
  • Enable seamless sharing of business insights and product knowledge among cross-functional teams that support their product lines.

What you bring to the table:

  • A successful history of managing product categories to achieve strong P&L results.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for building relationships, negotiating effectively, and collaborating cross-functionally, showcasing expertise in online merchandising and industry trends.
  • Skilled in data analysis and interpretation, leveraging insights to make informed decisions and guide product line management.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

What’s needed- Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Buying experience in related functions (merchandising, buying, planning, inventory management)
  • Basic knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint with proficiency in Access a plus.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing product categories and driving P&L results.
  • Experience in online merchandising strategies and practices.

What’s needed- Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience 
  • Basic knowledge of PowerBI, Jira, Bloomreach or related system tools a plus.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a managerial role.
