Staples Controls and Automation Group (CAG) Engineers are the primary drivers of innovation within the Staples North American delivery network. CAG Engineers have a wide variety of skills including software engineering, controls engineering, mechanical engineering, systems design, problem solving, communication and leadership skills. They are part of diverse teams, with members from many different departments, so they must be able to gain the trust of others and work well in a team environment to ensure successful completion of high profile projects. 

What you’ll be doing: 

  • Working with multiple cross functional engineers to bring a solution from concept to reality. 
  • Designing solutions in AutoCad and/or SolidWorks. 
  • Developing a bill of material and procuring the necessary mechanical parts to assemble the designed solutions. 
  • Work closely with cross functional teams to integrate conveyer controls solutions, automated material handling equipment, and autonomous vehicles. 
  • Ability to lead teams of technicians to assemble the system to the designed specifications. 
  • Ability to identify and manage vendors that can assemble designed solutions. 
  • Ability to identify opportunities for automation and independently lead the design, development, and implementation of those solutions. 
  • Break down the design into manageable development tasks and define and maintain project schedules. 
  • Will be a member of the team helping to optimize systems and processes. 
  • Perform on-site commissioning support when required. 
  • Provide 24/7 remote support when required. 
  • Job will require up to a maximum of 25% travel. 

What you bring to the table: 

  • Ability to develop detailed CAD mechanical drawings that are integrated with electrical drawings and schematics. 
  • An ability to identify motors, materials, and components required to fulfill the objectives of the project. 
  • Must enjoy and be willing to learn new technologies 
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical related to mechanical and electrical items. 
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, strong interpersonal skills, detail oriented 
  • An ability to conduct meetings and presentations with associates from all levels of management. 
  • An ability to be highly independent and resourceful; often able to find the solutions to problems with little or no support. 

What’s needed- Basic Qualifications: 

  • 3+ years experience designing and developing mechanical solutions. 
  • Aptitude for hands on mechanical troubleshooting. 
  • 2D and 3D AUTOCAD experience 
  • 2D and 3D Solid Works experience 
  • MATLAB experience 
  • Proven experience in mechanical design and product development. 
  • Proficiency in CAD software and design simulation tools. 
  • Knowledge of industry standards and compliance requirements. 

What’s needed- Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. 
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license. 
  • Experience with 3D printing and advanced manufacturing processes. 
  • Demonstrated history of successful project management.
