Our team is diverse, with skillsets and responsibilities ranging from graphic design, content creation and performance marketing to internal communications and loyalty & rewards programs. We work together to provide expertise and guidance, so that the Staples brand is well represented in all areas. 

Role Summary

The Senior SEO Strategist is a critical member of Staples’ Marketing team, partnering closely with digital site experience, content, and product management teams to drive search engine visibility and performance across our print site. This role ensures SEO best practices are embedded throughout all pages and templates, supporting our organic acquisition strategy and reinforcing Staples’ brand authority in search.

This position focuses on improving organic traffic, search relevance, and user engagement through effective on-page SEO strategies and technical optimization. The strategist collaborates across functions to identify and execute key initiatives that drive long-term search performance growth. The role operates with significant autonomy and influences internal teams on SEO strategies and timelines.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Monitor and analyze weekly SEO metrics, trends, and performance using industry-standard tools; provide actionable insights in weekly reporting.
  • Identify and prioritize SEO opportunities for Staples Business site and Stores, including keyword optimization, page structure improvements, internal linking, and metadata refinement.
  • Partner with product, content, and UX teams to implement SEO best practices in both new templates and existing page designs.
  • Ensure site adherence to technical SEO standards, including compatibility for crawling and indexing, page speed, and mobile friendliness.
  • Conduct competitive analysis and identify opportunities for improved ranking and visibility in key print-related search segments.
  • Establish SEO guidelines and integrate them into department plans and roadmaps.
  • Coordinate tactics with PPC manager for balanced coverage of paid and organic listings.
  • Stay current with SEO trends, algorithm updates, and tools to proactively adapt strategies.
  • Prepare and present SEO performance reports and project updates to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication, including the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clarity and alignment.
  • Ability to make data-driven decisions and synthesize insights through clear, concise communication.
  • Proactive and self-motivated work style with adaptability in a fast-changing digital environment.

What You Bring to the Table

  • Strategic thinking with strong analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in SEO tools: SEMrush, Ahrefs, Google Search Console, Screaming Frog.
  • Highly proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; experience in web metric programs (Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics).

What’s Needed - Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 7+ years of SEO experience.
  • Advanced understanding of search engine industry and algorithms; familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XHTML, and AJAX.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Analytics, and Marketing teams to prioritize and deliver scalable solutions.
  • Understanding of UX and Usability principles and their impact on SEO.

What’s Needed - Preferred Qualifications 

•            Experience with local search optimization.

•            Prior experience improving SEO performance for B2B industries.

•            Experience working with Agile development teams and SEO sprint integration.

The salary range represents the expected compensation for this role at the time of posting. The specific base pay may be influenced by a variety of factors to include the candidate's experience, skill set, education, geography, business considerations, and internal equity.  In addition to base pay, this role may be eligible for bonuses, or other forms of variable compensation.
