The Senior Technical Product Manager II is a pivotal role at Staples, demanding a blend of subject matter expertise, strategic insight, and robust collaboration skills. This individual is responsible for driving the platform vision, shaping strategy that bridges the current and desired states of the business, and executing within an iterative, agile framework. This role requires exceptional internal and external collaboration, as well as cross-functional partnership with key stakeholders to deliver innovative platform features that enhance business value.
What you’ll be doing:
- Develop and articulate a clear vision for the platform, translating strategic business objectives into actionable roadmaps and feature sets.
- Lead the execution of platform strategy, managing the entire lifecycle from conceptualization to deployment, ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to define product requirements and translate them into technical specifications that guide the development process.
- Prioritize product backlog items based on a thorough analysis of technical feasibility, business impact, and user feedback.
- Oversee the design and implementation of new platform features, ensuring they deliver measurable value to users and align with the overall product strategy.
- Conduct regular stakeholder meetings to communicate progress, solicit feedback, and ensure ongoing alignment with business and technical objectives.
- Monitor and report on the platform’s performance, using key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess health and success, and adjusting strategies as necessary.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration between product management, engineering, UX/UI design, and other departments to drive the platform’s development.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and lead initiatives to enhance productivity and efficiency within the product team.
- Manage relationships with external vendors and technology partners, negotiating contracts and overseeing the integration of external services and technologies.
- Mentor and support the development of junior product managers and other team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

- Proficient in risk management, able to identify and mitigate potential technical and project risks.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to lead teams through complex product challenges and changes.
- Demonstrated ability to innovate and implement state-of-the-art technical solutions and improvements.
- Strong experience in customer experience enhancement and implementing user-centered design in product features.
- Advanced skills in analytics and data-driven decision making to support product strategy and enhancements.
- Exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills, with experience managing external vendor relationships and large-scale contracts.
What’s needed- Basic Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field or equivalent work experience.
- 10+ years of experience in product management with a focus on technical platform development.
- 10+ years of experience in leading and delivering complex projects within an agile framework, specifically with a proficiency in SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework).
What’s needed- Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
- Prior experience in e-commerce or retail industry platforms, with a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in these sectors.
- Certification in Agile methodologies, Product Management, or related fields such as Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or SAFe Program Consultant (SPC).
- Previous leadership roles in technology-driven business transformation projects.
- Experience in mentoring and developing junior product managers and contributing to the growth of a high-performing product management team.
