 Sr Automation Engineer

The Sr Automation Engineer will be working on the latest innovation projects of Staples’ Supply Chain with the goal of improving the efficiency and performance of our warehouses. They will be responsible for determining the current issues that the fulfillment centers experience and suggesting new solutions to solve these problems. By working with a broader team, they will analyze, design, develop, test, debug, and implement their automation and robotic ideas to improve our supply chain fulfillment centers.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Study the current state of the fulfillment centers to determine inefficient processes or other areas that can be improved.
  • Determine solutions for the problems that either improve the efficiency or performance of the fulfillment center and develop detailed designs that outline the problem and solution.
  • Working both autonomously and in a team environment, analyze, design, develop, test, debug, and implement these solutions to improve the efficiency and performance of our fulfillment centers.
  • Manage projects from start to finish that implement the automation and robotic projects that they are working on.
  • Mentor more junior associates in the development process.
  • Quickly diagnose and troubleshoot issues that occur in both live production environments and testing environments.
  • Understand complex processes in topics such as logistics, warehouse management, automation, and robotics.
  • Develop and execute test plans for robotic and automation software.
  • Assist in the test and production deployments of robotics and automation software.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams.
  • Perform on-site commissioning support.

What you bring to the table:

  • Communication with operations to explain processes and troubleshooting of production issues.
  • Communication with cross-functional teams, such as SDS, project management, engineering, etc.
  • Interaction with external customers or vendors.
  • Working with others towards a common desire to reach a solution by all parties involved.

What’s needed- Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Robotics, Software Engineering, Data Science OR relevant work experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in Automation engineering.

What’s needed- Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in logistics, warehouse management, automation, robotics.
  • Ability to quickly diagnose and troubleshoot issues.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and in a team environment.
