Senior Transportation Analyst

ApplyThe Sr. Transportation Analyst is responsible for planning the movement of Staples product from vendors to distribution locations, as well as from distribution locations to Staples Retail locations and Customer Locations. Sr. Transportation Analysts are required to plan the movement of goods in the most cost-effective manner while meeting all delivery and quality standards.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide daily route optimizations solutions that adhere to Staples cost and service expectations. Sr. Analysts will solve complex transportation problems across all domestic business units by exhibiting advanced understanding of planning, order management and warehouse management systems and capabilities. Sr. Analysts are also required to maintain advanced understanding of Customer, Carrier and Vendor processes and shipping / receiving capabilities.
- Communicate cost and service variances to all stakeholders in a timely manner. Sr. Analysts require advanced understanding of all Logistics metrics and are required to exercise discretion and independent judgment when making cost/service trade-off decisions. Sr. Analysts will maintain effective relationships with Supplier Relationship Managers, Inventory Analysts, DC and FC field personnel and provide proactive communication on any issues impacting service to customers.
- Assess cost or service variance root cause and recommend process or system improvements. Sr. Analysts will conduct periodic review of planning related service failures and make recommendations for process and systems improvements to minimize future execution risks.
- Provide short-notice, rapid response planning solutions in support of promotions, emergencies or supply chain disruptions.
- Monitor shipment origin/destination pair frequency and volumes and recommend schedule modifications that will result in service improvements and cost reductions.
- Create process and procedure documentation aids to assist in the development of peer associates.
- Report and analyze business unit performance against published KPI’s and /or other metrics.
- Review potential cost savings opportunities by measuring current cost against spot market.
What you bring to the table:
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Effective written and verbal communication.
- Proactive approach with a focus on continuous improvement
- Strong functional knowledge of computer systems, both PC based (e.g.; Excel, Access, etc.) as well as familiarity of transportation systems (i.e. Blue Yonder)
Strong interpersonal / customer service skills. - Familiarity with cost compression metrics and understanding in reading and understanding data reporting.
- Must be highly motivated, independent, proactive and organized.
What’s needed- Basic Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of progressively complex related experience in transportation or logistics.
- Proficiency in transportation management systems and software.
- Knowledge of transportation regulations and compliance
Preferred Skills:
- BA/BS degree or equivalent training and 5-7 years of experience.
