Monitoring & Observability Engineer – New Relic

What you’ll be doing:

As part of the Enterprise Tools Engineering team at Staples, you’ll bring your monitoring and observability subject matter expertise to bear by innovating, integrating, and automating to improve efficiency and productivity with tools such as Splunk and New Relic. You will also partner closely with multiple cross-functional domain teams including Development, Performance Engineering, and Site Reliability Engineering to deliver integration, performance metrics, and observability across the enterprise.

You’ll seek continuous improvement by applying best practices and making recommendations to leadership on opportunities to leverage tools like Splunk and New Relic to solve complex business problems and improve the availability, performance, and overall digital experience of our B2B and B2C platforms. You will help administer our observability platforms and help develop our roadmap while meeting specific business needs.

What you bring to the table:

  • Showcase experience in observability best practices administering Splunk and/or New Relic and similar application performance and log monitoring tools (Dynatrace, DataDog, AppDynamics, etc), delivering solutions across all environments, and integrating platforms and applications with log monitoring and APM tools.
  • Demonstrate strong customer focus with excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Execute strong cross-functional collaboration and leadership.
  • Adapt and innovate to ensure the success of both Staples and the Enterprise Tools Engineering team.
  • Constantly challenge yourself by actively seeking new ways to grow using both formal and informal development channels.
  • Foster an inclusive environment by welcoming diversity.

What’s needed- Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with Linux, UNIX, and Windows operating systems
  • 5+ years of experience with application performance monitoring and/or log monitoring tools including New Relic, Splunk, or similar tools (DataDog, AppDynamics, etc) and experience implementing related data visualization, dashboards, and reports
  • 5+ years of experience with SQL
  • 5+ years of experience with one or more programming/scripting languages (Examples: Python, JavaScript, Java, PHP, PowerShell, BASH/Shell)
  • 2+ years of Public Cloud experience (Azure, GCP, or AWS)
  • 2+ years of experience CI/CD tools such as Puppet, Jenkins, Terraform, Ansible
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodology

What’s needed- Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with ITIL and ITSM methodology
  • Experience with DevOps methodology
  • Experience managing commercial off-the-shelf technology
