The Account Consultant markets and sells SPP products and services to new and existing customers, and is responsible for achieving team sales and profit goals.  The Account Consultant is responsible for customer satisfaction and for the delivery of commitments made by the company, and will collaborate with other sales support teams to ensure successful ordering and delivery of sales. The Account Consultant is the key point of contact for all Non-Enterprise accounts (accounts who spend under $300,000 per year in Special Order and/or Program business and do not have a contract with SPP), and supports the Strategic Account Manager and Account Manager to service Enterprise Accounts (accounts who spend over $300,000 per year in Special Order and/or Program business and have a contract with SPP.) 
The Account Consultant completes the order-entry form to submit order requests to the Special Order Team, and provides support to the team’s Strategic Account Manager and Account Manager(s) with over-flow quote support, over-flow order-form support, and general team administrative support.  The primary responsibilities of this role are retaining and developing relationships with key existing Non-Enterprise Accounts and new prospective customers, supporting the Strategic Account Manager and Account Manager with Enterprise accounts, and providing quote, order-entry form, and administrative support to the team as required.
  • Key point of contact for Non-Enterprise Accounts (accounts who spend under $300,000 per year and do not have a contract with SPP)
  • May be a point of contact on Enterprise Accounts (key major accounts who spend over $300,000 per year, have a contract with SPP, and have both program and special order business requirements) along with the Strategic Account Manager and/or Account Manager
  • Directly handles all incoming quote requests under $10,000 for Non-Enterprise Accounts
  • Directly handles incoming quote requests under $10,000 for Enterprise Accounts with support from Strategic Account Manager and/or Account Manager
  • Directly handles incoming quote requests over $10,000 for Non-Enterprise Accounts with support from the Strategic Account Manager
  • Completes order-entry form to submit order requests to Special Order Team
  • Brings all client quote requests over $10,000 to the attention of the Regional Sales Manager
  • Brings all client quote requests over $50,000 to the attention of the Regional Sales Manager and National Director of Sales
  • Maintains and increases margins to within client and department guidelines
  • Ensures customer satisfaction by working with members of the sales team as well as members of sales support teams across the business
  • Acts as a proxy for the client internally at SPP when interacting with all program and Special Order teams
  • Collaborates with the program team to manage aspects of the program business
  • Works with Special Order Team to ensure that all Special Order orders are placed and delivered according to the customer requirements
  • Ensures customers have complete satisfaction with their Staples experience
  • Responds immediately to inquiries, issues and customer complaints 
  • Acts as a liaison between SPP and customers with regards to invoicing and service concerns
  • Proactively reaches out to past customers to market new products, services, and generate sales
  • Builds and maintains trust with a customer by fulfilling commitments and handling issues in order to gain a high level of customer satisfaction
  • Increases sales within existing customer base through proactive activities such as customer visits, calls, marketing, delivery of exceptional customer service, developing an awareness of customer requirements/preferences and changes in the local market, competitors and industry
  • Secures new accounts through networking and prospecting
  • Increases sales by staying current with new products and trends as well as
  • Researches and prepares quotes to ensure maximum profit and market competitiveness
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed to meet deadlines
  • Provides team coverage upon request
  • Provides support to the team’s Strategic Account Manager and Account Manager(s) with over-flow quote support and over-flow order-form support
  • Provides administrative support to the Strategic Account Manager and Account Manager(s) upon request (ie: sample orders, quotes, order-forms, presentations, report summaries, etc.)
  • Accountable for team sales and profit goals along with Strategic Account Manager and fellow team members
  • Maintains a record of sales activities and follow-up requirements in the designated system
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of the SPP brand by utilizing promotional materials to introduce and increase customer knowledge of SPP in the Canadian market
  • Adds value to the customer experience by developing a thorough understanding of their business, project and/or operational requirements. 
  • Advises the customer on the best product(s) to accomplish objectives and recommends discounts and/or custom solutions.  
  • Provides creative solutions to exceed the customer expectations. 
  • Contributes to the team effort by participating in the sales team calls/meetings, sharing of best practices, product ideas, and success stories, collaborating on proposal development and consultative selling techniques.

  • 1-3 years sales or customer service experience.
  • Experience in the Promotional Merchandise Industry preferred.
  • High School Diploma required
  • University or college diploma in sales or business or equivalent working experience within a B2B sales environment is preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentations skills with a flair for sales
  • CSP designation or CPSA graduate is preferred
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Highly proficient business written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to discern message content
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks/projects simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good math aptitude
  • Industry experience (ie: understanding of decoration processes, quoting, and SAGE) preferred
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced and changing work environment
  • Ability to demonstrate a positive and supportive attitude at all times even during stressful or difficult situations
  • Ability to support company and management initiatives and/or decisions
  • Ability to prioritize and execute work under tight deadlines

  • Minimum 1-3 years sales or customer service experience, and a comfort in developing creative solutions for clients

  • Thorough and complete knowledge of company systems and processes
  • Attends off-site client meetings and makes sales calls
