Description
PURPOSE OF JOB

The Inside Sales Manager, Business Development (ISM) is responsible for managing the Inside Business Developers (IBD) and developing and executing a business plan to win new customers and increase market share in each assigned territory. The ISM - BD works closely with the IBD team to ensure they have the training, tools and resources necessary to successfully win new business and reactivate dormant accounts. The ISM - BD is responsible for developing sales strategy, training initiatives and margin management activities within their overall book of business.  The ISM - BD identifies, recruits, interviews, manages, coaches, develops and performance manages the assigned team of Inside Business Developers. The ISM - BD will work with RSD’s and other Sales Managers in coordinating the account transition of new business to focus on and ensure retention of all new accounts.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Recruit, train, and develop all IBD’s
  • Work with IBD’s on a daily basis to ensure all sales targets are being met with a key focus on coaching, recognition and performance management 
  • Provide guidance on goals and objectives through clear, effective, timely and constructive feedback.  30/60/90 day action plans in place and monthly review of BD Scorecard
  • Provides leadership including training, sales coaching, and performance evaluations
  • Call monitoring & side by side coaching sessions are done on a regular basis with feedback sessions to ensure sales skills development
  • Facilitate or coordinate training sessions on Staples Way, Internal processes, systems or methodology
  • Work closely with Sales Managers of Specialty lines to ensure there are plans in place for all lines of business opportunities within new accounts 
  • Work with Account Management, Sales Managers to ensure a successful transition of all new business with a key focus on retention and identifying and acting on growth opportunities 
  • Provide a well thought out and detailed action plan to review and achieve key business priorities
  • Strong SFDC user; comfortable creating reporting, managing data, training associates and ensuring sales representatives are compliant with tracking all customer opportunities
  • Work with National Inside Sales Director to ensure key metrics and objectives are consistent and that targets are being met

  • Strong verbal, written, in both English and French languages
  • Strong presentation, interpersonal and customer relation skills
  • Strong business, financial, operations, and technical acumen
  • Demonstrates consultative selling skills
  • Demonstrates strong team building attributes
  • Computer literacy, including above average competency in Excel, Word, Outlook & PowerPoint
  • Trained as a facilitator in sales training programs 
RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Successful business development experience required
  • 3 years direct management experience preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of selling experience, penetrating and winning accounts
  • Previous office product industry experience is helpful 
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of telesales and the sales planning process 
  • Experienced in coaching for results, good organizational skills and demonstrated positive leadership style 
  • Creative selling, project management skills and strategic planning ability required 
  • Superior time management and organizational skills
  • Strong computer literacy (experience with Salesforce.com an asset)
  • Post-secondary education in business related discipline – Diploma or Degree preferred.
