The Agile coach works to enable Agile transformation throughout Staples through coaching, teaching and mentoring teams and individuals as appropriate. This individual brings a wealth of personal experience in leading agile teams and enterprise agile transformation and has the flexibility to coach teams to greatness by helping them discover the best way for them to develop software.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide coaching, training, assistance and support for teams undergoing transition to Agile, including reaching out to other parts of the organization that are considering the use of Agile
  • Understand which Agile approaches and practices might be best for each team and be able to coach the team to help them choose the best approach for them.
  • Solid understanding of Lean software development concepts and how they apply to both the enterprise and teams.
  • Facilitate discovery workshops, training and retrospectives for teams, departments, groups as needed
  • Develop and continuously improve training & reference materials
  • Ensure team goals are consistently met and be able to facilitate the team towards this.
  • Coaching teams to improve & to work as a self-organizing team
  • Works cross functionally to align strategy, methodology and execution
  • Work towards providing an Agile environment that will support and ensure the success of Agile teams
  • Assist in vendor relationships to ensure Staples has best of breed Agile tools.
  • Understand Staples culture and how best to change the culture towards Agile adoption
  • Coaches and mentors Scrum Masters and supports Agile teams as needed
  • Be pivotal in the adoption and maturing of lean & agile practices in the enterprise, working with leadership and teams
  • Collaborate with other Scrum Masters, Product Owners, Agile Coaches and Business Partners to improve software delivery within Staples


Basic skills:

  • Bachelors Degree and 4 to 6 years of related work experience
  • Agile, Lean, Scrum, Kanban and associated techniques such as continuous integration, test automation, test first development, discovery workshops
  • Servant Leader – someone who is able to put teams first and help them to develop and become autonomous.
  • This person should be comfortable having discussions with individuals, teams and executives as an Agile coach and can drive positive outcomes using their experience and expertise
  • Seasoned Facilitator
  • Strong knowledge of a broad range of Lean-Agile techniques and good software development practices
  • Coaching, mentoring and teaching individuals, groups and the enterprise. Should be able adapt coaching style to meet the needs of the person or persons being coached


Preferred skills 

  • Experience with tools such as  Jira, Clarity, Confluence
  • Experience with Agile lifecycle management tools
