Diversity at Staples

Staples: Where you can bring your whole self to work!

At Staples, we embrace and promote inclusion and diversity. We know how important it is for all associates to feel valued for who they are.

Staples recognizes the value diversity brings to an organization. That’s why we strive to build a dynamic and talented team of associates across all diversity dimensions – culture, race, gender, sexual orientation and more. By combining a diverse workforce with a culture of inclusion, our hope is that each and every associate will contribute to their full potential.

What are we doing to attract diverse talent?

  • Posting all of our openings to dozens of job sites focused on diversity.
  • Posting openings to hundreds of colleges and universities, many of which have a history of diversity.
  • Partnering with organizations that specialize in recruiting diverse talent.
  • Collaborating with our Associate Resource Groups to encourage referrals.

What are we doing to develop and retain diverse talent?

We currently offer training and tools through various programs across the organization — Staples University, Rising Stars, internships and Succession Planning — to name a few.  We also aim to establish connections and help associates achieve their personal and professional goals through participation in our Associate Resource Groups and mentoring program.

Another important component is the ongoing leadership training to provide our supervisors and managers with the information and tools they need to create a culture of inclusion and collaboration.

Are we doing anything specific to engage and retain female talent?

Staples clearly understands the unique perspective and ideas that women bring to any organization. We know how important women are to growing and sustaining positive business outcomes. Hiring, engaging and retaining talented females at all career stages are core objectives for us. We want women to be represented in our entry-level positions, our most senior-level roles and everywhere in between.

Staples is keenly aware of the national gender wage gap that exists and is actively pursuing ways to understand where our own gaps exist and how to mitigate them.  We are proud signatories of the Equal Pay Pledge. It affirms our commitment and outlines a few of our key efforts to help level the playing field.
