Position Summary

The Area Sales Manager is responsible for leadership, profitability, growth and direction of all Facility Supplies (Jan/San) sales activity. Manages the Jan/San business plan within their assigned area including targeting strategies, account assignment, product penetration, and margin management. The Area Sales Manager identifies, recruits, interviews, manages, and coaches assigned Facility Solutions Account Executives and the Facility Solutions Account Consultants.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develops a Facility Supplies business plan that includes goals, objectives and strategies that ensure budget attainment of sales goals, margins and direct selling expenses to meet profit goals
  • Develops revenue goals for sales team and establishes account representation for sales territories
  • Establishes and maintains client relationships and program
  • Initiates and coordinates development of action plans to penetrate new markets in conjunction with office supply account management team
  • Evaluates and maintains customer pricing and profitability
  • Ensures support for sales team via ride-alongs, team meetings, and on-on-ones. Assists in preparations of bids and presentations
  • Creates an environment of success while building a strong team
  • Monitors Facility Solutions sales team performance and communicates results to individuals, teams, market, and headquarters
  • Manages the selection, termination, development, measurement, motivation, and cooperation of the Jan/San sales team
  • Develops and manages assigned area sales budget and sales margin
  • Ensures that the market’s policies are communicated and implemented


Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of direct selling experience
  • Two years in a supervisor/management role required; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience


  • Jan/San industry experience
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Creative selling, project management skills and strategic planning ability
  • Ability to set targets and design growth plans
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and manage for results
  • Ability to interface at the most senior levels at a customer site
  • Ability to identify, hire and retain qualified sales professionals
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to multitask
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal and customer relation skills
  • Strong business, financial operations, and technical acumen
  • Demonstrates consultative selling skills
  • Demonstrates strong team-building attributes
  • Computer literacy, including competency related to MS-Windows-based applications

  • Trained as a facilitator in sales training programs
