The Microsoft Program Manager with guidance from the Category Merchant or Director DMM is responsible for customer satisfaction and revenue growth through the development of selling strategies inspired by deep customer insight, for an assigned product line or group of product lines within Staples Advantage, specifically Microsoft Surface, Microsoft Accessories and Windows Computers. This involves developing a strong understanding of the Staples Business Advantage customer through research efforts, field feedback, and frequent live interactions with the field sales team to assist the organization in developing selling strategies inspired by the customer. This includes assortment planning, financial planning, inventory impact implications, marketing plans, merchandise presentation in our catalogs and sites, distribution, project management, vendor relations and administration for the Microsoft computing products. With guidance from manager develop and execute strategies for driving sales and margin, and competitive differentiation.
With assistance from Category Merchant or Director DMM; develop deep understanding of customer needs and shopping behaviors through research efforts, field feedback, and work with our vendors, sales reps and Merchants
With support from Category Merchant or Director DMM develop and execute written strategy for product lines taking into account cross-functional implications
With direction, choose items and vendors for assigned product line(s). Support manager in negotiating with Microsoft for lower total delivered cost, volume incentives, rebates, advertising and other applicable allowances
Meet with Microsoft in development of marketing plans for managed product lines
With Category Merchant or Director DMM, gain understanding of pricing, margins and total profitability of your areas
Create ways to improve your margin structure through step-selling, creative & meaningful alternatives for our end users, negotiations with vendors, etc.
Work with Marketing, Key Supplier Team, Quill, SBD, Retail and other functional areas as needed to achieve corporate goals
Develop ability to utilize appropriate resources to gather data
With direction from Category Merchant or Director DMM interpret basic financial statements, total costs to serve the product, financials levers and metrics used in Merchandising to understand current and future trends
Identify exceptions and seek additional information when data discrepancies are found
Develops proactive communication; assessing the need for immediate action
Bachelor’s Degree required
Minimum of 3 years total experience in buying related functions (buying-Merchandising, Planning, Inventory management)
Buying and Planning experience
General knowledge of industry trends, assortment planning, customer buying patterns, inventory management, logistics and marketing techniques
Knowledge and understanding of financial analysis and forecasting
Influencing skills, verbal and written communication skills
PC literate with the ability to develop and manipulate spreadsheets
Ability to drive sales and margin results
Ability to build partnerships
B2B or eCommerce experience
Ability to travel 10% - 20%
