Associate Manager, Product Development
Position Description: Formulate and apply mathematical modeling and optimizing methods to develop and interpret information that assists with decision-making and policy formulation related to new product development. Develop large-scale new consumer and commercial products and programs and analyze the quality and performance of existing products to ensure they meet or exceed the brand standards, minimize return and defective product rates, and maximize customer value and satisfaction. Collaborate with Product Management, Merchandising, Inventory Management, Product Designers, Quality Control, Legal, Supply Chain, and Asia Sourcing to define products that meet our customers’ performance and cost targets and our brand standards. Develop engineering product specifications. Schedule and lead design and quality review meetings. Monitor project timelines and lead cross functional business team interactions through the Develop and Launch stages of the product development process. Ensure test protocols are developed that effectively confirm the specifications are met. Work with independent testing labs to test products against these protocols. Assess the risk associated with new product testing to ensure launch dates are met. Provide input into cost negotiations and global contract manufacturer selection process. Support activities related to manufacturing start-up and pilot run process with selected factories. Maintain knowledge of return and defective rates and customer comments for existing products and implement design, material, and specification changes to deliver product improvements. Collaborate with the Quality Manager, Merchandising, Product Management, Inventory, and if applicable, the Asia Manufacturing team to react quickly to product quality issues and to drive containment and corrective actions with the supplier. Provide leadership, coaching, and training in an individual contributor role to assist in the development of Associate Product Development Specialists and Senior Product Development Specialists within SBG.
Required Experience/Skills: Requires a Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Business Administration, Engineering (any field), or a directly related field plus two (2) years of product development experience. Experience must include some amount of:
- Timeline management and understanding of Microsoft project
- Ability to understand product material alternatives and make recommendations to factories
- Demonstrated understanding of complex Microsoft Excel tools including VLOOKUP tables
- Advanced Microsoft PowerPoint
- Demonstrated ability to use market research databases including NPD to develop category strategies
- Demonstrated understanding of report writing tools to design custom reports from data warehouse tools
Will accept a Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of described experience.
Experience may be gained before, during, or after advanced degree.
