 Position Summary

The Sr. Optimization analyst is responsible for reporting and synthesizing data on performance of email, our most efficient and far-reaching marketing channel.  This position will partner with the Sr. Manager of Planning and the Marketing Vice President to collectively drive email strategy towards keeping customers engaged in Quill email content and repurchasing via email channels.


The position reports to the Manager of Financial Marketing Analysis and maintains a close working relationship with all members of the Customer Marketing Team and email planning team.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Analyze engagement and order data in order to draw insights and make recommendations for driving business results through campaign optimization
  • Track performance of all email campaigns and programs and build out reporting as needed (daily, weekly, monthly)
  • Learn and assist in build-out of data processes to support data-driven marketing initiatives
  • Email reporting and analysis focused on current “core” email performance (“push” emails containing mostly broad promotions), as well as performance in “trigger” dynamic emails (based on recent individual customer behavior) and emails to lapsed customers.
  • Responsible for any ad-hoc analysis and support for Email team towards hitting sales and deliverability targets.  Such analysis/support will include analysis of the email offer components, making sure we maximize the count of email addresses that we currently have, and continuously evaluating the value of incremental email sales against the possibility that customers will “opt out” of email given that spamming behavior is strongly correlated with customers opting-out.
  • Reporting and analysis and potentially contribution in creating/optimizing any relevant new segmentations of our emailable base that would allow us to market to our customers more effectively
  • Proactively identifying trends and opportunities to expand our assortment of email messaging


  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration/major in marketing, accounting, finance, or economics.
  • Two to four years of analytical work experience
  • Knowledge and proficiency in spreadsheet applications (Excel)

  • Strong analytical skill, excellent communication skill and ability to present in group settings
  • Comfort in dealing in imperfect information
  • Demonstrates attention to detail and the ability to adhere to deadlines
  • Experience working on successful email-driven campaigns; demonstrated ability to affect customer behavior via email

  • Creative and pragmatic
  • Knowledge and experience in MSFT Access, SQL, Tableau
