The Manager, Email Marketing will oversee operations & production for Staples US Stores, Staples.com, and Staples Business Advantage email programs. This position oversees email campaign production in all aspects; ensuring best-in-class project management on the team, developing an elegant & efficient production process, and constantly innovating and optimizing – all the while focusing on flawless execution. This manager is also responsible for all email merchandising decisions – utilizing a data-driven approach, focused on the best experience for our customer while ensuring vehicle success. This role requires strong leadership skills, an unparalleled ability to multi-task, and the diplomacy to balance the needs of multiple associates & peer groups across the organization. We are seeking a proactive, organized, process-savvy leader for this role

Responsibilities:

Team Management

  • Manage and develop a team of campaign developers (+1 QA associate) to ensure flawless project management & program execution, continuous improvements, and professional development
  • Apply extreme rigor to tests – as designed by Strategy/Innovation team or other
  • Model the professionalism & industriousness expected across the team
  • Educate the team on email best practices, tips & tricks to make their jobs easier and our emails better

Reviewing all email offer submissions.

  • Work with category marketing and merchants to garner the best offers for USSO email program. 
  • Manage business-critical, out of process email updates/changes. Act as point of escalation.
  • Use data to make objective email merchandising decisions.
  • Insure all offers are translated through the customer lens, promote our value prop through institutional messaging, and ensure the best possible experience with email content & offers.
  • Determine offer segmentation and data processing requirements. [Office Hours]
  • Coordinate & disseminate email campaign performance & optimization recommendations

Process Management

  • Develop an elegant and efficient email process, constantly optimize and evolve
  • Maintain thorough and current documentation, utilize in team training and process audits
  • Constantly assess and audit our current state email production process – look for efficiency gains, areas of automation opportunity, and cost savings
  • Document issues/errors on our side as well as on the vendor side in order to provide accuracy reporting

Vendor Management

  • Help manage overall email operations budget and identify opportunities for cost efficiency
  • Act as key stakeholder in email service provider relationship

o    Conduct weekly email operations call

o    Escalate issues & monitor resolution

  • Act as primary liaison with creative agency for all email issues

o    Oversee regular business reviews

o    Oversee all recurring meetings; Creative Review, turn-in, etc.

  • Ensure deadlines are met by email team & related partners

Personalization

  • Work with cross-functional teams to implement, test and further email personalization.

o    Continually work with cross-functional teams to further develop email personalization.

o    Ensure personalization initiatives manifest accurately in email.

o    Act as admin & power user of UPBEAT for marketing and merchandising

  • Work with the Email Strategy and Innovation team to improve and further develop UPBEAT and the email personalization process.

Basic

  • Bachelor's Degree 
  • 6-8 years of related experience

  • Previous management experience

  • Ability to partner with various business units to foster collaboration and keep projects moving
  • Decisiveness
  • Understanding of relational databases and utilizing customer data in marketing campaigns
