Staples Business Advantage is an $8B+ channel serving small, medium & large business customers. Given the size and maturity of this channel, the Pricing Manager will play an important role in further defining this channel and in building this business.
The Manager will lead a team of Analysts, Sr. Analysts, and Pricing Project Managers supporting the Healthcare/Public Sector field sales team and ultimately, customers. This associate will ensure that Staples is setting and managing sell prices with attention to hitting sales & profitability goals while ensuring that the pricing terms & conditions in legal-contracts are adhered to. This Manager must be a strategic thinker and leader in solving departmental challenges and should enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where priorities often shift.
This may include, but is not limited to, developing and implementing high level pricing strategies to acquire and/or retain corporate accounts, as well as developing strategies and leading the implementation of custom, catalog (or program), non-core & cross-portfolio pricing strategies.
This manager will also be responsible for enforcing and defining pricing policies, developing reports that provide insight into the performance of Staples Business Advantage, leading the execution on plans to improve selling profits & shaping demand across Staples Business Advantage customers and delivering operational support to Sales.
Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Influence and collaborate with Healthcare/Public Sector business partners to drive improved performance of sales and profit metrics.
  • Use analytical and strategic skills to make best decisions for the company using all inputs, past performance, and strategic initiatives.
  • Establish team objectives and drive achievement of departmental objectives.
  • Key leader in expressing pricing department policies, including the reasoning behind pricing strategies.
  • Advise/enforce compliance to customer agreements.
  • Responsible for driving successful execution of all Information Systems (IS) activities that relate to pricing & product assortment management.
  • Travel as needed to support the business, up to 25% of time.
  • Share best practices with other business units
  • Identify and drive process improvements and policies
  • Continuously refine and improve item specific details and strategies based on the marketplace and competitive landscape
  • Influence market and sales leaders to leverage new tools and strategies
  • Lead change management with teams, utilizing existing and future Staples Systems and tools
  • Manage workflow escalations as needed and required
  • Lead ongoing interactions with Sales Representatives, Sales Managers, and Sales VP’s.
  • Drive Pricing department objectives on cross-functional teams with other departments, including Finance, Merchandising, and IS/IT.
  • Responsible for hiring, training & developing a staff. Pricing analysts are responsible for delivering several different support services to field Sales Management & Field pricing managers.  Ultimately, the efforts of this team impact the profit rate for Staples.
  • Oversee and assign responsibilities, performance and development of team
  • Conduct full performance appraisals and coaching for direct reports
  • Consistently evaluate and optimize team organization structure, employing crucial conversations, as well as recognizing and rewarding success
  • Review and approve pay actions for direct and indirect reports
  • Responsible for ongoing evaluation and optimization of team productivity, including the management and monitoring of associate metrics.  Includes ability to manage crucial conversations as necessary, as well as recognizing and rewarding success.
  • Drive the communication and implementation of strategies that will optimize account acquisition/retention and drive the sales and margin growth of Staples Business Advantage existing accounts

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree required (concentration in analytical- and/or financial-based areas such as business, accounting or economics desirable)
  • CPP welcome
  • Minimum 5-8 years previous work experience required (3-5 years’ related experience in B2B distribution environment or financial/analyst work desirable)
  • Previous supervisory/management experience preferred
  • Previous Healthcare/Public Sector experience preferred
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills including ability to effectively sell ideas to others and influence sales leadership or other decision-makers
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Strong decision-making ability
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task a must
  • Ability to work in a team environment yet be self-directed, proactive, and action-oriented
